During the 1-year M.Sc. program in Systems Biology, the Fall and Winter semesters are dedicated to laboratory rotations (BIM6077A and B). Students are required to do rotations of 4 months each in 2 different IRIC research teams. In most cases, both projects will focus on related issues, but may use different experimental techniques depending on the expertise of the principal investigator and the scientific resources used by members of the laboratories involved.
At the end of the two rotations, students are invited to prepare rotation reports in the form of scientific manuscripts and to present their projects orally during a seminar (BIM6035).
Still little known in Quebec, the concept of laboratory rotations is common in most American universities. They are an integral part of the M.Sc. program in systems Biology because of the many advantages they offer.
