Living in Montreal
Montreal is a unique city which blends the charm of North America and Europe. In 2010, the city had 1,649,519 inhabitants (nearly 4 million with its suburbs), making it the most populous city of Quebec, the second most populous city in Canada and the second largest francophone city in the world after Paris.
Both peaceful and lively, Montreal is a bilingual city where French culture harmoniously co-exist with English culture. With this blend of culture, Montreal has been, and always will be a welcoming cosmopolitan city opened to the world. Montreal has also been repeatedly voted as one of the cities with the highest quality of life in the world.
In addition to being internationally recognized for its major festivals, its high quality performing arts and sporting events, its dazzling nightlife and its many tourist attractions, Montreal has become a hub in several industries (e.g. aerospace, pharmaceutical, technology, arts).

The cost of living in Montreal is relatively low compared to other major North American cities. However, international students must expect to spend more money during their first months in Montreal to cover various expenses (e.g. winter clothing, furniture). For an example of a typical budget for an international student, visit the International student office website.
Montreal has a climate that fluctuates dramatically during the year. It is thus necessary to adapt your clothes from season to season.
