Application - M.Sc. & Ph.D.


Our student recruitment process for the M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels is centralized at IRIC Office of Academic Affairs. Students wishing to pursue graduate studies in one of our research teams are invited to follow the guidelines presented below when preparing and submitting their application. Please note that since the student recruitment process takes place throughout the year, there is no set deadline to submit your application.

Eligibility Requirements

  • You must demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing graduate studies in the field of cancer research;
  • You must have successfully completed or be enrolled full-time in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in life sciences or biomedical research;
  • You must have maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.3 (70%, B, 12 out of 20, or the equivalent) if you are a M.Sc. candidate, and 3.3 out of 4.3 (75%, B+, or 13 out of 20, or the equivalent) if you are a Ph.D. candidate;
  • You must meet the general admission requirements (Section XI) of the Education Regulations of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Preparing your application

To be considered complete, your application package must include the following documents:

  • A detailed letter of intent (max. 1000 words) describing: 1) your academic background; 2) your career goals and scientific interests; 3) your reasons for wanting to pursue your studies at IRIC in the field of cancer research; 4) the names of researchers with whom you would like to pursue your studies and the reasons for your choice.
  • Official transcripts of your university-level academic record (scanned copies are accepted);
  • Your resume;
  • Two letters of recommendation attesting to the quality of your academic achievement including, if applicable, any research experience you may have (optional for M.Sc. applicants but required for Ph.D. applicants). These letters should be mailed or emailed to us directly by your recommenders.

Please note that only complete applications will be reviewed by the selection committee.

Applications are reviewed by a selection committee made up of IRIC researchers and Academic Affairs representatives. Depending on the positions available in our research teams, successful applicants will be invited for an interview either in person, by telephone or video conference.
